Triptych

I am still following Cheryl Johnsons 12 Days of Christmas photography course and have learnt quite a lot about camera settings and ways of making photos more interesting. I really need more practice and a couple of the assignments I havent been able to do due to not having any Christmas lights around.

Yesterday she asked us to produce a Triptych (I think thats right)! It is a montage of 3 photos (or art generally) that complement each other. As our Christmas tree went up in the office, I had a rummage through the decorations to produce something that was a little festive with my macro shooting. I'm quite pleased with the results and can see how three pics together can be more interesting.
Some of the other ladies on the course produced amazingly beautiful shots of ice and satsumas - awesome!

WOYWW - Christmas gift tags

Gift tags on my desk this week!

One of my colleagues has commissioned 20 tags for Christmas and left the design and style to me - so here's the first few!

Go and take a look at WOYWW with Julia at Stamping Groud - http://stamping-ground.blogspot.com

Rules are meant to be broken

Today's assignment was to look at the rules of photography and have a play.

I bribed the dog into a photoshoot at lunchtime, so armed myself with treats and camera to get some close ups of her. She seemed quite comfy on the bed!
I have tried some tilted shots and close ups which have come out okay.

I also used the rule of thirds (kinda) to take a photo of the rubbish that is accumulating outside the office. The Landlord has gone into receivership and cant afford to have the bins collected. Just wait until I get a close up shot of the humoungous rats that are bound to be scrabbling around in there!!!!!

Festive Photowalking

Not much in the way of festivities around here to photograph at the moment but I took the camera out in the late afternoon sunshine today (yes - sunshine). The sky looked so beautiful behind the berries so I'm pretty chuffed with this pic.
I also attempted shooting a melted snowman in the park (after seeing others' amazing shots)!

The other pics are of my husband and son (for the photography course) - we had to take photos of family members in interesting shapes - well, no interesting shapes here but a moment captured together!

Spell it Out

Yesterday's task was to "Spell it Out" in a festive way for the photography course.
I did panic a bit becuase by the time I get home from work its pitch dark and flippin freezing and I dont have anything festive around at all - yet!

So, I took my shots back to basics and drew my words in the snow with my frozen, blue finger. I think it sums up my feelings!

Balancing outdoors

I have completed part two of the white balance task on the photography course.
This time, I used the white balance settings outside, which I wasnt particularly looking forward to!

As it happens, we are having a little snowfall and I found a lovely bunch of red berries hanging in the car park at my sons school this morning. Perfect for a festive picture!
Amazing how the different settings look outside!

I thought I'd add a photo of the journey to school too!

White Balance & Puppy's fist snow pics

Cheryl has given us the taks of finding our "white balance" settings on our cameras AND using them!
I didn't even know what white balance was so already I have learned something! I even found out where the settings were on my camera!!

These are my snaps of an indoor inanimate object at work (there were plenty of inanimate objects sitting at desks but I thought this might be a better model).

We have also had about a centimeter of snow around here and its Bella's first experience of the white stuff! She absolutely loves it. We have been watching her chase it, eat it, run from it, snap at it, roll in it and jump on it. Its so much fun to watch a puppy at play!
